Bushings are cylindrical objects with one end turned down to produce a wider edge.

On the outside, the turned down portion of the cylindrical part, often called the flange, produces 2 diameters (OD) & two lengths. Meanwhile the entire part has one inside diameter (ID), usually a clear hole drilled through but threaded in some cases. The tube portion below the flange is called the shank, and is often inserted into a chassis to provide support for a rotating shaft, with the flange serving to prevent the bushing from going through the hole. It can also be used to provide spacing, with the shank serving to center a shaft or fastener.

Bushings can be made of almost any material, but are most commonly made of stainless steel. Nylon and Delrin are common materials for bushings as well. Sizes range from 010” to 3″ Shank Length & 1/16” to 1″ internal diameter.

Locking fasteners are threaded fasteners that are either male (like a stud) or female (like a nut), which are pressed into a hole previously drilled into a chassis or housing. They can be installed with ordinary tools and offer high durability. Their integral, captivated design speeds handling and assembly operations in a wide variety of applications in the electronic, instrument, aircraft and other industries. The ability of these fasteners to provide long-wearing stainless steel threads for aluminum, brass, mild steel, thermoplastic panels or chassis makes them ideal for fastening components, terminal boards, wire and cable harnesses, circuit boards, tube sockets and sub- assemblies. Their extreme durability makes them a must where repeated fastening and unfastening takes place. The unified design of the Floating Nuts simplifies adjusting hole misalignments, particularly in difficult-to-reach places. Self-locking styles provide added resistance to vibration and shock in fastening applications.

Nuts are threaded (female) fasteners which secure a bolt or stud coming through a panel or housing. Most nuts are hex-shaped, and used with wrenches, while others have an externally knurled body that can be loosened and tightened without tools.

These parts are typically made from stainless steel and are available from ASM with Vibra-Tite and other anti-loosening treatments. Sizes range from 0-80” to 3/4-10”.
